Urban Media Summit 2013: Engines running

27.9.2013 | Since a week the exhibition hall of community center Alte Feuerwache Cologne has turned into an international media lab: Young artists and film makers from 9 countries jointly produce movies and media art.

An office chair, some DIY wood, bowden cables and mineral water crates all tied together make a decent camera crane. A young production crew sets it up inside St. Peter church to film a dance performance. Meanwhile, another production group places a couch in a Cologne park, and in the exhibition hall 3D-mapped images are projected onto a plastic mannequin.

At the international exchange „Urban Media Summit 2013“ young film makers and artists of various disciplines meet to jointly produce movies and media art in internationally mixed teams. Spain, Romania, the Netherlands, Italy, Hungary, Greece, France and England are in the house; in each of those countries, partner organisations from the international ROOTS & ROUTES network are active in promoting young talents and cultural diversity.

On Monday, September 30th, the public part of Urban Media Festival Cologne 13 starts with a Vernissage at 21:30 CET. There, media artists from the Cologne region meet the international group that displays their installations here. Further highlights will include a poetry slam with the „Reim in Flammen“ crew on October 1st, the premieres of the movies produces by the international teams on October 2nd and an evening with stummfilm:dj (DJ Kernes spins live vinyl to silent movie classic „Carmen“). Additionally, there will be public workshops by the international group and screenings of previously produced movied of the participants.
