World Summit Youth Award 2009
15.5.2009 | The interactive videoplatform ROOTS&ROUTES TV is one of the 15 winners of the international "World Summit Youth Award (WSYA) 2009", in the category "Create Your Culture".
612 Submissions from 101 countries have been evaluated by 20 young experts and social entrepreneurs during a three-stage judging process of the WSYA Jury 2009. Aileen Wessely - 22 year old math student, who programed the video platform for the jfc media education center http://www.rootsnroutes.tv - will likely recieve the Award in September in Monterey, Mexico.
The World Summit Youth Award (WSYA) is the global contest for online or mobile initiatives to raise awareness and help resolve the most pressing global issues.
It selects and promotes best practice in e-Content and technological creativity, demonstrates young people’s potential to create outstanding digital contents and serves as a platform for people from all UN member states to work together in the efforts to reduce poverty and hunger, and to tackle ill-health, gender inequality, lack of education, lack of access to clean water and environmental degradation.
"WSYA" is therefore both a showcase to the world for young designers, technologists and e-Content creators, and a global scale contribution to reducing poverty, protecting the environment, sharing knowledge and empowering young people.
The "WSYA" is global a part of the UN Alliance for ICT and development under the auspices of the UNESCO and UNIDO, in co-operation with the Internet Society (ISOC) and private sponsors.
