Get ready for an exciting day-course where we’ll delve into remaking a (or: one of your favorite pop songs), a great way to learn about music production and songwriting in a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) at the same time! This workshop provides you with production tools to remake a song, which could help you recreating the sounds you’d like. Which song will be done this time, stays a secret for now.
The workshop will be split in two parts. In the first part, we’ll focus on sharpening your listening skills and exploring how song arrangement influences music production.
The second part is all about the pop song! We’ll dissect it together, focussing on different production elements to provide you with a deeper understanding of how a track is built. You can choose to work solo or collaborate with a partner (i.e. if you’re completely new to the programme).And: If you already joined the first workshop, you also have the choice to bring your own favorite pop song and work on it.
As a bonus, I’ll provide you with an interface tutorial, and will share some free plugin links that helped me out, when I started producing. I can’t wait to see you at the workshop!
In diesem Workshop wird ein Popsong in Ableton live nachgebaut. Dabei kann man gleichzeitig etwas über Musikproduktion und Songwriting in einer DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) lernen. Um welchen Song es dieses Mal geht, bleibt vorerst ein Geheimnis. Der Workshop wird in zwei Teile aufgeteilt. Im ersten Teil konzentrieren wir uns darauf, die Hörfähigkeiten zu schärfen und zu untersuchen, wie sich Komposition und die Zusammenstellung der einzelnen Elemente auf die Musikproduktion auswirkt. Im zweiten Teil dreht sich alles um den Popsong! Wir werden ihn gemeinsam analysieren und uns dabei auf verschiedene Produktionselemente konzentrieren, um ein tieferes Verständnis dafür zu entwickeln, wie ein Track aufgebaut ist. Man kann alleine oder mit einem Partner arbeiten (z. B. wenn Sie völlig neu im Programm sind). Und: Wenn jemand bereits am ersten Workshop teilgenommen hat, gibt es auch die Möglichkeit, den eigenen Lieblingspopsong mitzubringen und ihn nachzubauen.
Über Liza Dries
Liza Dries ist eine in Köln lebende niederländische Künstlerin und Produzentin, die sich mit den Intersektionen von experimentellen Klängen und Popmusik beschäftigt. Sie veröffentlichte ihre selbstproduzierte EP »RL« bei Safe Space Records, ein synthetisches Tagebuch mit Einflüssen aus Genres wie Electronica, Alternative R&B und Hyperpop. Ein Teil der EP wurde während einer Reihe von Twitch-Livestream-Sessions produziert, bei denen sie das Publikum einlud, sich an dem Prozess zu beteiligen.

Participation requirements: First experiences with Ableton. The Workshop will be held in German and English. Please bring a Laptop (with Ableton Live installed), a MIDI-Keyboard (if possible), and Headphones (if possible)
Erste Erfahrungen im Programm Ableton, der Workshop wird auf Englisch und Deutsch gegeben. Bringt einen Laptop mit (mit Ableton Live installiert), ein MIDI-Keyboard (nur, falls vorhanden) und Kopfhörer (falls nicht vorhanden, können wir ggf. Equipment ausleihen). Sehr gerne erste Erfahrung mit Ableton. Die Teilnehmer:innenanzahl ist auf 10 begrenzt.
